zNose® Electronic Nose (Ultra-Fast Portable GC Analyser) The zNose is an ultra-fast portable GC-based volatile compound (VOC) analyser. It utilises a proprietary Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) detector to detect the VOCs separated by the GC process. The term 'Electronic Nose' refers to the capability of the zNose to detect and analyse VOCs in an air sample and to recognise specimens based on the 'smell' of the specimen after 'training'. Just like our own nose, the zNose detects and analyses the VOCs released by a specimen that gives it its own distinct smell (Vapour Print). By building up a library of Vapour Prints, it is possible to train the zNose to automatically recognise known specimens. In real world applications, the zNose is being utilised in various fields, from security and law enforcement to food production and scientific research. It is an amazing piece of equipment that is suitable for any application that necessitates the ultra-fast screening of VOCs in an air samples. All types of specimens can be analysed with the zNose, including solids, liquids or even gaseous specimens.

The zNose is capable of detecting VOCs from C-4 to C-24 in less than 10-seconds. A typical air sample analysis would take less than 60 seconds, making it an ultra-fast VOC screening equipment. For heavy organic compounds, it is usually necessary to heat up the specimen in order to make the organic compounds more volatile. Accessories for the heating and warming of specimens are available. Also available is a portable remote air sample collection kit for collection of air samples at remote sites.
The ultra-fast screening capability and portability of the zNose makes it an ideal piece of equipment for use as a stand-alone VOC screening equipment or to complement a conventional GC/GCMS analyser.
